Description

Valentino's has moved to a new, larger location down the street, and they finally got a sign.

There's a certain lore about Valentino's; the only thing I'm sure if is that they have big prices and small portions. Their online menu has no prices, which is why I've never been there.

The latest casualties of the Covid19 shutdown are Valentino's and One Door East. Both restaurants have closed permanently and will not reopen.

The average portion size in the City of Fort Lauderdale just increased substantially.

Chef Rocchio has left the building; the venues are now owned and operated by his partner. Since Rocchio was the self-proclaimed superstar using the justify the prices; what's the reason now?

Valentino sold their liquor license to a Billiard's place in Hallandale. As outlined in my article on liquor licenses; they took over the space next door and I suspect that they'll use the liquor license next door for Valentino. This is precisely why I made the case that a liquor license isn't worth nearly as much as it used to be.

I thought it was a restaurant training school. I actually took my dog for a walk by it in the daytime and STILL couldn't figure it out (all the blinds were down) until I saw this blog while looking for something else. There are too many other great choices opening or just opened, The Chimney House, Mancini's new place, The Oyster Bar at Riverside Inn, Voodka, all with signs and crowds. Why make it so hard? Unless it's trying to be like the Secret Garden restaurant... only those that know, know. Not in a hurrry to get there now.

If all of those restaurants you mentioned were "great choices"; how great would Fort Lauderdale be? Even 2 of them.

The fools who go here think they're special, like they're some kind of big foodies. But they're just fools; overpaying for "good" italian food that's worth 30% less. If they want to have some sort of secret restaurant why not open it in the back of some shopping center or some side road rather than create an eyesore on US1?

yes, a newly renovated white building, with glass windows is definitely an eyesore...where do you live in home built by Frank Lloyd Wright??

It looks abandoned. They could put a sign up like every other restaurant in every other city does.

Agree they should have a sign, and a website with info, extremely frustrating. But they actually replaced an abandoned papered windowed building with a lively business, nice aesthetic, and at least it's a price point that attracts a good crowd to the neighborhood. As a resident of Rio Vista, I think this has been very positive for the neighborhood

They were in the neighborhood before. Many, many years of looking like an empty space. SOS

That's one of the big problems with Fort Lauderdale. Someone opens a decent restaurant and they start charging prices that are higher than Locanda Verde. Relatively, sure, they're better than Cafe Europa, but hardly worth $30 for a bowl of pasta or $36 for halibut.
