Bikini Contest Returns

Not too many years ago, Bikini Contests were an integral part of the culture in Fort Lauderdale. For locals, perhaps they became mundane, but for men of all ages visiting the area they were as much a part of a vacation as the drinks and sunbathing. For the past few years, the only place to see a bikini "contest" has been at Bootleggers which is now La Playa. Of course anyone in the "know" is aware that this is really a show with models with the same girls week after week.

But this Weekend, on Saturday August 14th, Tarpon Bend is going back in time hosting their 11th Anniversary party. Starting at 6pm with Live Reggae music, continuing at 8pm with a hawaiian style fire show and culminating at 9:30 with a good ole Bikini contest, it promises to be the kind of party that used to be standard fare in old Fort Lauderdale. Specials include $2.50 Coronas and $3.50 "Seven Tiki" Rum drinks.

If you like girls and you're in town for the weekend consider yourself lucky. Note that if you're staying at the Beach or on Las Olas you can get to Tarpon Bend by Trolly for 50 cents. Trollies leave Beach Place complex at the beach and loop down Las Olas Boulevard to downtown Fort Lauderdale right by Tarpon Bend. Just flag one down. Make sure they see you; there's no tipping so the drivers have zero incentive to care if they drive right by you.
