Critic's Review
With the Deli Den gone, Levy's is about it as Kosher Deli's go in Broward County. Located in a strange shopping center that looks more like office buildings, Levy's is a small square open room with some counter seating and a few rows of wooden tables.
It's not a very warm or inviting venue; no privacy. You're pretty much eating in the middle of the room no matter where you are. The table gets a setup of pickled stuff; the pickles were decent but the rest of it was just a waste.
They don't have iced tea (my server offered me a Snapple), so I just had water. The first thing you notice about the menu is the prices; they get 15.95 for a Pastrami Sandwich, which is up $4 from 2010 prices. Considering that they get $16.95 at Carnegie Deli in midtown Manhattan; that's just way too much for rural Hollywood, FL. The shish-kababs were too much also; I decided on a Shawarma Pita and opted for the french fries.
The Sharwarma comes off a spit; the sandwich came out in about a minute.
A good sized sandwich, The fries came out a few minutes later.
More like potato chips than fries; they're much better cut this way than the usual square logs. The Shawarma, which is turkey and lamb with hummus and some chopped veggies, was relatively flavorless. The pita was better than you're usual Gyro pita. The fries were great, although I did have to salt them.
$10 even. They probably give you a big mound of cole slaw and potato salad with the sandwiches, but I'm still not paying $15.95 to try them.
