Taco Beach is Closed.Review 6/24/13
A Chipotle-like concept just behind the Elbo Room, Taco beach lets you fill a taco, burrito or a bowl with tex-mex stuff. The price here is $7.99, which is $1.20 more than Chipotle. The place is clean and comfortable to eat-in on 90 degree days; the music is bad house music. There's a counter where you order, an odd and annoying TV screen that flickers on and off with your menu choices.
$2.99 for a bottle of water, which is just too much. They raised all of their beverage prices a couple of weeks after opening, so it didn't take them long to get into the tourist rip-off game. I got chicken and yellow rice and pico, lettuce, black and pinto beans cheese and sour cream. They don't have any veggies; just raw spanish onions; I usually like the veggies at Chipotle.
The chicken is sort of water-logged and not seasoned; I prefer grilled chicken, but they do give you a good portion.
The people here are very nice and accommodating. No complaints about the service.
To sum this place up, if it was right next to a Chipotle you wouldn't come in here, but at this location, which your other choice is paying $12.95 for 3 tacos at the Drunken Taco or $3 for a slice of pizza, it compares favorably.
NOTE: While they have very sturdy take out containers, which is good. They are NOT microwave safe. It folded up like a cheap suit when I tried to heat up the leftovers.
I'm wondering why you would call it a Chipotle rip-off. How many ways can you serve Mexican food? Chipotle does not serve fish tacos, nor do they have a ton of hot sauces to choose from.
