Critic's Review

There was really no reason to try this place. It's not in an area that I usually bother with. But it's a cool name for a restaurant. Enjoy the name, because it will be gone soon.

First, make sure you're in the right lane. It's just before the Swap Shop / Green Market; if you miss it it's a wild ride to get back to it. I found out the hard way. For some reason I thought it was just AFTER the market, so I couldn't get over. Welcome to Plantation.

Half of the parking lot is taken up by smokers. It seems like an awful lot of equipment for such a small place. They just have one smoker at Jenkins.

Climbing up into the shack, it's your typical BBQ dump; a place that you can't eat in even if you wanted to. Plus theres a 95yo guy watching TV, so you can't even wait for food without some company.

The only menu was a ripped piece of paper taped to the counter that wasn't very easy to understand. I saw a 1/2 slab and a Rib/Chicken combo for $14. I ask about the sides; they have large and small containers on the counter. No sides included. A small side is $3. A dinner is $18 with 2 sides, but they're not in the containers; they just slap them into the container. I thought about getting just one side, but I figured I ought to try 2. $19.08. I drove out west to pay $19. for some ribs?

I leave and a family has arrived and their kids are running all over the parking lot. They parked 9" from my car ( I hate that, 2 cars in the lot do you HAVE to park inches from me?). So I wasn't pulling out the camera. Just iPhone pictures today.

Getting out of here is a disaster as well. 3 lanes of traffic and you have to get over to the left or do the 3/4 mile U-turn past the market. Ugh.

I open up the container, which is pretty heavy, to see some wonder bread and scary looking BBQ sauce.

The ribs looked a little gray; I don't see why they can't give 2 sides in containers for $18. It's just a sign of someone who wants very badly to go out of business.

The first rib I had was terrible.Dry, hard to chew. I tried the sauce, which wasn't as bad as it looked. I expected mustard, but it didn't taste like mustard. It didn't taste like BBQ sauce either. I haven't had BBQ in a while so I'd thrown out all of my leftover sauces. So I couldn't try them with better sauce. But I was darn glad that I asked for the sauce on the side.

The beans tasted like chili beans; not quite cooked long enough to become baked beans. The cole slaw, obviously, was just a sloppy mess. Not terrible tasting but likely with so much mayo that I didn't want to eat much of it. $3 for these sides? So a 1/2 "slab" with 2 small sides is $20 at this place?

I had a few more ribs; I didn't get why some of them were flanken cut 1/2" thick. Some of the ribs weren't as dry, but it wasn't good quality meat and these weren't expertly prepared. There wasn't much flavor. Get some ribs and throw them in a smoker.

I tried to like the sauce, but in the end, I couldn't. I tried adding some ketchup because it wasn't very sweet, but it didn't help much.

So if you didn't know about any other BBQ places I doubt you'd want to get food here, but given that BBQ King is just down 95 with much better ribs for 30% less, there's no point to this place.
