Critic's Review

I wanted to go to B-dubs on a Sunday to see how they handled Football, and the answer is not very well. I got there about 1:05pm, which was just after the 1pm games had started. There were a couple of tables available and a few seats at the bar, but the Giants game was only on against the wall, with no seating available where I could watch. So I figured I'd be standing. I wasn't ready to drink yet, so I ordered an iced tea.

The first time I was here, they said that they didn't have any sugar so they gave me sugar in a glass. I figured it was because they just opened and someone forgot to order it. But 3 weeks later, the story is the same.

The TVs are at strange angles; your perspective changes when you are actually trying to watch something. My first time here there was nothing on, so the number of TVs was impressive. But when I was trying to watch games here, it was difficult to find what I wanted to watch.

Buffalo Wild Wings Bar

Of course if you're watching the Dolphins, you can watch on the huge TV in the middle of the room.

So my game was on 2 sets on the north wall, which is right where the kitchen entrance is. There's a steady stream of servers, runners and "captains" running through here. I had the choice to stand in back of the bar and watch one set, or stand literally in the middle of the room to watch the other. Neither was very comfortable.

After a while, they put the game on in the other corner of the room, but it was right over the exit to the patio, and there were all kinds of servers and people running in and out. The viewing from this side of the bar was pretty good; Too bad my game wasn't on any of the sets.

Buffalo Wild Wings Left Side of Bar

The couple at the table right under where I was watching paid their tab, and it didn't look like there was anyone waiting at the hostess stand. I got yelled at last time for just grabbing a table by the bar, so I went to the hostess stand and asked them for the table. One of them came with me; I pointed at the table and she said I should take it. She never brought me a menu, which led to the next round of confusion.

I still had my iced tea, so I'm just sitting at an empty table watching the game. Not a great viewing angle, but I managed.

Buffalo Wild Wings - My Viewing Angle

Servers are walking by one after another. I figured one of them had this table and would ask me if I wanted something. But nothing.

Buffalo Wild Wings Empty Table

Finally someone stops and asks if I want a refill on the iced tea. "Yes, plus a menu would be nice". She told me that she wasn't my server, but that she'd get the refill. So she left, and a couple of minutes later another server came over and told me that she was my server. I wanted to get out of here at halftime, so I just ordered some "snack" size wings with "Hot" sauce. Meanwhile, I got my refill and I didn't bother asking for sweeteners, nor were any offered.

The wings came out about mid-way through the 2nd quarter.

Buffalo Wild Wings Snack Portion

I didn't expect such a load of celery with 5 wings, which come out to more than $1 per wing. The celery was what I'd call water-logged; it's fairly obvious that they store the celery in water. Makes them kind of refreshing, but squishy.

I've had 2 "sauces" here and didn't really care for either of them. This sauce, just "hot", was better than the other 2. Unfortunately, the wings weren't any good. They didn't taste fresh at all; like they'd been frozen more than once. Dense, chewy. Really quite bad.

Buffalo Wild Wings

As I finished the wings, it was the 2 minute warning, and I wanted to hit the road so I'd miss as little as possible of the 2nd half. So when my server ran by, I asked her to bring the bill. Any chance of a quick exit evaporated when I noticed that she'd charged me for an iced tea. "I already paid for this before I sat down, she was just getting me a refill". So the quest for a manger began, and it took quite a while. Luckily 2 minutes in the NFL is really 10 minutes, so I cashed out just about as the game was over.

Conclusion

A much different experience when you're trying to watch something in particular. First, this place is not set up for a standing room only crowd. The bar doesn't have a lot of room around it, and you can't really stand next to someone's table to watch a set.

But the big story here is that the Food isn't any good. Low quality wings served fast food style. It's just a very low-end feeling place. Maybe good for watching football with kids, but this is no place for adults. Add to that the random positioning of the games and the odd-angle TVs, and you have something worth avoiding.

Review 11/25/14

I've been probing BWW for weeks about the opening of this location, but for some reason they don't want to tell people when they're open. Today I noticed that the location is active on their web site; not one tweet or Facebook post about it. They opened on Monday.

Unlike the Red Robin across the way, BWW has an entrance in the mall, as well as one outside.

I figured I'd sit in the bar area so no reason to deal with the hostess. This one is different than the Coral Springs location. It's more open, brighter and has brick walls throughout. The front room is less like a dining room with rows of table and just a few booths along the wall.

Buffalo Wild Wings Plantation

The bar is much bigger here; they just have a counter in Coral Springs. I decided to sit at high top, which got me into a bit of trouble. High Tops aren't part of the bar and they require you to be seated by a host/hostess. I got scolded and then they brought me a menu.

The TV layout here is better than any sports bar I've been to; and I've been to them all. From my vantage point, I could see a lot of TVs.

Buffalo Wild Wings Plantation Bar

The back of the bar doesn't have a mega-screen, but there are a couple of big ones.

Buffalo Wild Wings Plantation

The walls are lined with good, big TVs also. This place totally spanks the recently open Tilted Kilt, which is where I've gone the last couple of weekends.

I ordered an iced tea, which set off a series of events that set me back a good 10 minutes. First, she brought out a glass without sweeteners. When I asked for them, my server realized that I wanted unsweetened tea and she'd brought me sweetened. So she came back with another glass and some sweeteners. Except there was no sugar (I'm off Splenda). So I had to wait for her again. I figured she'd just get me another container, but it was more complicated than that. Several minutes later, she returned with a glass of sugar. She told me that they didn't have sugar packets. Seems ridiculous, but no matter.

Buffalo Wild Wings Plantation

I didn't want breaded chicken finger or popcorn shrimp, and I've tried the wings and I'm not crazy about them, so I ordered a chicken caesar salad.

The big negative of the place is the loud club music, which creates a strange ambiance for lunch. You're in a sports bar, but there aren't any live sports on, and they're cranking out "Shontelle-Roll", Ciara's CRUSH, Katy Perry and a scary, scary rap rendition of "hard to handle". It was unbearable.

The salad was taking a long time; way too long for a grilled chicken salad. While I was waiting a "Captain" stopped by to explain her function. It's not a bad idea; they have a person assigned to each section who can change a channel for you, which was the only service on her list that appealed to me.

Finally the salad came out. My first impression was that the lettuce didn't look so great, but I liked that they gave me a big tub of extra dressing so I wouldn't have to ask for it.

Buffalo Wild Wings Plantation

The dressing isn't quite caesar; it's sort of spicy. The "sticks" of cheese didn't seem or taste like cheese. I'm glad they didn't give me too much of it.

Buffalo Wild Wings Plantation

Nice core right up front. Definitely a salad made by a kid, but overall I liked the salad. I think it's the only thing they server that doesn't come in a paper food tray. It was plenty of food for lunch and not a bad deal for $9.95.

A second iced tea came out before I was finished with the first one; service was fine considering it was the second day open. One thing that was good was that servers that weren't my server asked if I needed anything as they passed by. One of them said "Hey, I remember you from the Macaroni Grill", which is astonishing since I've been there once in the last 2 years. Turns out that "Sarah" is working at both places. She complained that they've been pretty dead; mainly because no-one knows that they're open.

Everyone is going to know that they're open now.

Conclusion

The club music and fast food presentation makes this a very strange kind of sports bar, but this is a handsome place and the TVs are the best in East Broward by far. There are a lot of places here where you could stand or sit and watch several games comfortably.

The "Captain" assured me that they don't play the stupid music during the games, and that they'd have the sound on Sunday and Monday nights. If I lived in the area, I'd certainly want to come here before going to Hoops.
