Critic's Review
*** McCormick and Schmick's has closed. This place is now Mario's Osteria ****McCormick and Schmick's may not seem like a big chain here in South Florida with their 2 locations, but they have more than 80 locations nationwide. I have to admit that I didn't know this going in; in fact I wandered in here accidentally after purchasing a book at Barnes & Noble and not wanting to have to deal with Christmas traffic on glades.
Inside, the place reminds me of a Bennigan's or Houlihan's. It's kind of a cool place; casual; They have 1 big TV at the bar and a separate bar area from the dining room.
They also have an outside bar. The place was different than I expected; for some reason I thought it was a fancy place. But its really very casual.
Their menu is pretty good; they have a lot of seafood and a lot of choices for lunch. I decided on an entree of parmesan crusted flounder with a lemon caper sauce.
It was a pretty good sized piece of fish. The crust was much heftier than I had expected; the word "delicate" doesn't apply to this dish. It was fried pretty crisp and a pretty thick coating. It was good but it was close to fried fish than what I has wanted.
It's hard to gauge the service as the place was pretty empty; the lull before happy hour. Hour hours are legendary here; with $1.95 menu and a big half-pound cheeseburger for $2.95. to go with 2 for 1 drinks.
