The name was a turnoff who wants to eat at a place with the name yak that means to vomit? I used to live close and It did smell like someone yaked in the place the few times I went in.

For people my age (50) you may remember this spot as a "Banana Boat" in the wild and crazy 1970's. The new owner has something to do with Packy's in Lighthouse Point and the new menu is similar to packys and is a lot of bar food: Mac N Cheese Bites, Raspberry Wings etc. They cleaned the place up, repainted and added a new bar, the kitchen looks small, and only a few tables inside. The music skewed to the 80's and the owner promised live music on Sat and Friday---again think 80s rock and roll. No more smoking inside because they actually want to sell food, and the new owner is targeting other bar folks with Pool and Dart tournaments. I don't think they have decided about Karaoke, personally I hate bad music and people who sing karaoke so I hope it goes away. It's open now but the Grand Opening is Sat night......

A Yak is a big horned animal. Apparently the name was some mispronunciation by the original owner's son. Rule of thumb: the name of a restaurant or bar matters. Don't use something stupid.

This place is (or was) not a real restaurant and was a bar that served wings--sometimes. They marketed to Smoker's so they would close the kitchen at irregular hours, or not open it at all, and didn't want to exceed a certain amount of food sales or they wouldn't be allowed to have smokers at the bar. The only time a few cars were in the lot was Karaoke Thursday and maybe Sat night. It was clean and bright inside, but the food was kinda non-existent.
