Critic's Review

All Remnants of the Red Hot Shack are gone.

Redhotshack closed

The 'red hot shack' location has re-opened as Just Wings, a franchise operation out of Boynton Beach. The place has received a minimal facelift; the awning still says "Hot Dogs" and the Vienna Hot Dogs umbrellas remain even though this place doesn't have hot dogs.

The first thing I noticed is that they're not that cheap; $8.95 for 10 wings. The menu says that dressing and celery is "available upon request"; so I guess if you don't ask for it they don't give it to you.

I was thinking I'd try the regular wings first, although I was most interested in the Jerk wings. I ended up ordering the jerk wings; 10 wings with ranch dressing.

It takes about 10 minutes for them to make them, which can be a long time on a hot summer day. I waited in the car. When I got the bag into the car, they really smelled up the place. On the drive home I just kept thinking that these were going to be awful; probably swimming in some sticky brown goop. But when I opened them, I was a bit surprised.

Just Wings Jerk Wings

There weren't wet. They had a lot of jerk stuff on them, but they weren't swimming in sauce. I bit into one and HOLY CROW where these boys HOT!. There was no scrimping on the scotch bonnet peppers. I had 2 of them and I had to take a rest. Eating all 10 of these at once would be hazardous to the inside of my mouth.

Jerk wings are always an experience, and these are certainly different. If you like your wings hot; this is the place. They were a bit better cold; for some reason I like jerk wings right out of the fridge.

Just Wings is a franchise so they probably have some standard method of cooking. I'm not sure how they do it, but I'd think this might work OK for other types of wings. They have 22 "sauces"; if you're looking for take out wings this place might be worth a try.
