Critic's Review
There's always another Anthony's to try, and while they all have the same food and the same general decor, they're all a bit different. I hated the one they recently opened in Boca Raton. This one is more like the Fort Lauderdale store in terms of layout.
They have a strange outdoor space that certainly doesn't work during the day; maybe it's better at night
They don't have actual hostesses in these places; it you stand by the door someone will come over and seat you, but I just seat myself and wait for someone to come over.
If you know Anthony's you know that they don't have brewed Iced tea, just tea in a bottle. It's the equivalent of 2 glasses, so at least you don't have to wait for a refill.
All of the stores have the same type of decor, and great music with The Beatle, Todd Rundgren and The Eagle mixed in with Sammy Davie, Jr and Frank.
Pictures of Marilyn and Mohammad Ali are obligatory.
Service at Anthony's can vary widely, but it wasn't bad today. I ordered the lunch salad and the lunch wings; a serving of 5. On the dinner you can get gorgonzola as an option, but no such option exists for the reduced price salad at lunch.
The salad came out first. It's a pretty big salad with a tangy Italian dressing. Chick peas, kalamata olives, red onions and tomatoes.
Wings are served on the pizza stand on the table.
These wings are marinated and have some flavor; they're excellent without any sort of sauce or dip. I don't necessarily care for the onions. The wings are good on their own.
About $15 and enough food for a low carb lunch.
Conclusion
Every Anthony's is a bit different and this one is a good one. It's actually closer than it seems; just a stone's throw from the Broward Mall area.
It's funny. When I first moved here I despised the chatter about Anthony's; people chirping about how great it was. But as I've experience the culinary wasteland that is Fort Lauderdale, I've come to appreciate the consistency. All things are relative, and relatively speaking, Anthony's is generally a good meal for a fair price.
