Dean Trantalis Elected Mayor

The results are in; Dean Trantalis is the new mayor.

Mayor election results

This represents.a huge mandate for Trantalis' message of slow, smart growth and that citizens have had it with the overdevelopment in this city. In 2015, less than 8,000 people voted in the Mayoral election. The ~20,000 voters this year show that voters are more motivated to get involved.

Trantalis has pledged to start the process of killing The Wave streetcar project in the first meeting. Let's get on with it.

Pre-Election Ponderings

Are you tired of sitting in traffic trying to go E <--> W in this city? Are you tired of the over construction? Are you CONCERNED that the developers are trying to turn Fort Lauderdale into Brickell, where parking is a 20th century concept? Then you need to vote. We need to send a message to the other commissioners that we've had it with the overdevelopment. Many of us moved to Fort Lauderdale because it's NOT like Miami; because it's not like Brickell. The former Mayor Jack Seiler never understood this. We have a chance to have a change in the vision for this City.

Endorsement

InsideFortLauderdale endorses Deal Trantalis for Mayor.

Simply stated, we believe that:

1) Roberts represents "more of the same"; developer friendly, politically motivated, another Seiler in the waiting.
2) Trantalis is more in tune with the people's interests. He seems to understand the problems that the people who live here have with how the city is being run. He recognizes that traffic is out of control, and that people in cars are more important to this city's productivity than people on bikes.
3) Trantalis has signed a pledge to end The Wave project. Roberts claims to be against it, but is unwilling to make a commitment to The People.

Election Results

With approximately 121,000 registered voters in Fort Lauderdale, less the 17,000 voted in the election in January. Mainly because nobody knew there was an election.

2018 mayor results

Such low turnouts often do not result in the candidate most favored by the people getting elected. All of a candidates friends and supporters will turn out. We need more people to vote.

Dean Trantalus is the new mayor of Fort Lauderdale with nearly 65% of the vote. This is a clear mandate to the other commissioners that we have had it with overdevelopment.

Hopefully he will follow through on slow growth and keep the beautiful city of Fort Lauderdale from getting decimated by over development.

We'll find out in the first meeting. The mayor sets the agenda, and he's pledged to kill the wave project.

It clearly shows that almost 17000 people voted not 7000.m either a typo or insideftlauderdale has started to hire people who work for the sun-sentinel

That should have been 17,000. Thanks for the correction.

Thanks for your hard work fighting the Wave. That's the last thing this city needs downtown.
