Critic's Review

When you have to drive 1/2 hour to get a slice, things are really bad. Welcome to South Florida.

I've been meaning to check this place out for a while. I've been sick for 2 weeks and haven't been able to get enthusiastic about food. Today was 75, sunny and I felt like some pizza.

They push the lunch special here; signs are everywhere. When did $6 for 2 slices and a pepsi become a good deal? Figure $1 for the drink, $2.50 a slice is still $20 for a pie. That's not a deal.

Amelia's Entrance

They have the slices out; they looked ok. The slice pizzas are 18"; the correct size for proper slices.

Amelia's Slices

The Sicilian was lacking in sauce; more on this later. I ordered a regular slice and a pepperoni slice. 49 cents extra for the pepperoni. With a bottle of water, $6.95. A cheap lunch compared to just about anywhere else.

The place is decorated like a pizzeria, but they have seating and a few booths. You could have lunch with some people here; this isn't just a take-out pizzeria.

Amelia's Brooklyn PIzza Inside

A dude brings out the slices. The same dude I could see making the pies in the back. He does it all.

Amelia's 2 Slice Lunch

It LOOKS like pizza, which is a good start. Very thin; some people think that's good, but a really thin slice can't hold much stuff. These were definitely foldable.

Amelia's Slices

The pizza was decent, but it's VERY thin; just a thin layer of cheese over a very thin crust.

Amelia's very thin slices

The complaint about the very thin pizza is a lack of sauce and cheese; the paper thin crust can't hold much. This pizza has very little sauce; and it's the sauce that makes the pizza. Most pizzerias use the same cheese. This pizza has no distinctive flavor.

Amelia's Slice with very little sauce

All in all, a decent lunch for the price. But nothing I'd travel for again.

Conclusion

Amelia's Brooklyn Pizza sound like a Pizzeria, and in many ways it fits the mold in South Florida. Like Times Square or DaVinci's, these are real pizza people. Maybe they've lost their way or just realized that South Florida customers will accept pizza with less cheese and less sauce and they can still get their price. The bottom line is that they have to know that they're serving sub-par pizza, and they're ok with that.

So what we have is some decent pizza that isn't worth going out of your way for.
