Critic's Review
I was out early today thinking about stopping off for breakfast; and then I remembered the Wendy's is now serving breakfast.
I got here at 10:28, just 2 minutes before the breakfast cutoff. So the 1 thing that everyone hated about McDonald's breakfast (which they've since remedied) has been copied by Wendys; that at 10:45 you can't get a breakfast sandwich. The people that run these places are bonafide fools.
I haven't been in here in 10 years; I think I had one of their new menu items but never wrote it up. We don't usually do fast food. But with placed charging $8.95 for an egg sandwich and nothing along this stretch other than IHOP; my choices were limited.
The restaurant itself defines dreary; a boxy room with old furniture held together with bubble gum. The first table I tried was so wobbly that it made me laugh out loud, literally. I then tried a mini-booth and the table top wasn't even secured to the base; I could lift it right off.
The 3rd try was Golden and my food was ready. I ordered a sausage, egg and cheese on a biscuit; there didn't seem to be a top or a bottom to the biscuit; I decided on cheese up for the picture.
It looked "ok", and wasn't too hot. I took a bite having no idea what to expect. I was surprised; it was really good. The biscuit had just the right moisture (biscuits are often too dry); the egg was clearly real and freshly made, and the biscuit was very mild; not too sage-y. It wasn't bursting with flavor like a Long Island breadfast sandwich, but it was quite pleasant.
There was a layer of white sauce on the sandwich that I suspect was their sausage gravy; again not overly flavorful but pleasantly savory.
The item is very messy as the biscuit is quite delicate; you'll need extra napkins.
Conclusion
I wouldn't order anything with bacon at a fast food restaurant, so I'm not sure about the other choices. But what I got was satisfying and comes with a $2.99 price tag. I think it's better than an Egg McMuffin. It's a low bar, but it's all we have here in Fort Lauderdale.
