As Governor DeSantis prepares to re-open Florida's economy; as Jacksonville reopens their beaches, Mayor Dunderhead has issued an order extending all of the ridiculously overreaching "safety" guidelines until May 1. This isn't because of data, it's because he's an idiot who is obviously incapable of understanding the facts and the data.
For this map, Red is > 200 cases, Dark Blue is > 100, Medium blue is > 25 and light blue is 10-25. This is too complicated for the small minds in local government. The truth of the matter is that Fort Lauderdale has had very mild outbreak; not unlike Jacksonville which is going in the opposite direction.
There are hardly any cases in Fort Lauderdale East of 95, but in order to understand this, you'd have to have analytical skills to understand these complicated heat maps. In zip code 33316 there are 22 cases; 33304 has 48. 39 in 33301. So 109 cases in 6 weeks, and he's keeping the city shut down for another 2 weeks; issuing an order on the day that everyone else is preparing to move forward. Probably because Lenny Curry, the major of Jacksonville, is a business owner and he understands that these restrictions are hurting people more than the virus.
If you own a business in Fort Lauderdale, you can blame Trantalis for your financial woes; he's more interested in pandering to his liberal friends than doing the right thing for the city.
Of course once the Governor lifts the State of Emergency, all of these orders become moot, because Trantalis goes back to being a glorified City Commissioner and orders issued by a nobody can't be enforced.
We should all urge the Governor to lift the State of Emergency and free us from this power hunger idiot treating this virus like it's smallpox or something.
Original Post
It's now official; Fort Lauderdale is run by a slew of idiots who can't understand data and who couldn't come up with a sensible plan to save their lives. Or ours.
So now that we've learned that COVID-19 is not as deadly as predicted, not as contagious as first presented and on the downside of the curve; and at a time when the Governor is considering loosening restrictions, the idiots running Fort Lauderdale are issuing even broader edicts straight from the office of someone less than 7% of City Residents voted for.
There have been less than 100 cases in Eastern Fort Lauderdale; more people would die in car accidents if we were allowed to live our lives. Most of Broward county's "epicenter" is in out of the city; in Hollywood and Pembroke Pines.
Yet Fort Lauderdale has tightened the screws even more; decreasing the occupancy allowances for businesses. Trader Joes is now only allowed to have 25 people in the store, which is completely ridiculous. Meanwhile you can touch all the food and leave your whatever is on your hands all over the store. The virus will live on surfaces in an air-conditioned store for hours.
People on line crack me up. Some were 15 feet behind the next person. One chick had a shopping cart on line, as if she wouldn't be able to get one with 25 people in the store. One guy had a full gas mask on; probably from a breaking bad costume. Funny stuff.
Something new is lines at the supermarkets. Publix had a long line this morning; because standing on line 6 ft behind someone is safer than walking by them in the store.
Tantralis has been a Disaster as Mayor
Dean Tantralis is what happens when you vote for a guy not because he's smart or had good ideas, but because you desperately wanted to stop The Wave. While we did get rid of The Wave, we're now stuck with a clueless, obviously overmatched lightweight who thinks he has to issue a decree every 6 hours in order to convince himself he's relevant.
Tantralis isn't even a real major. He's basically chairman of the City Commission. Why do we even have to pay attention to him?
Measures Taken Make No Sense
Sunshine helps to build your immune system, yet the beaches are closed and we're told to stay inside. This is arguably putting people at risk by weakening their immune systems; particularly people who are used to spending a lot of time in the sun.
It's hot in Florida, and viruses die quickly in 80 degree weather. It's actually safer to be outside than in a closed space. The Beach is safer than your condo. But government is too dumb to understand things like this.
Two days ago they once again dropped the estimated death toll from Coronavirus to "about 60,000" from the original estimate of 250,000. Yet instead of understanding the data, the city has reduced the occupancy allowance in stores and supermarkets.
The beaches are closed: why? Is sand a conduit for the virus? Why can't "social distancing" be enforced at the beach. Say 20 feet between blankets?
Stores have reduced hours; most are only open 8am to 8pm. How does this make sense with lines to get into stores? Why not require stores to be open longer, like from 6am to 12am. More time open means fewer people in the stores at a time. Isn't this the goal?
Public Safety Claim in Bogus
Despite the hair on fire rantings of liberals who spend their days watching fake news and trolling anti-trump twitter threads, the Coronavirus is not a major public threat. While it's prudent to avoid getting the virus, it's not a death sentence; in fact if you're 35 your chance of dying from it are miniscule. Yet they've taken the further step of declaring all citizens "potential carriers" to justify enacting totalitarian measures on all citizens.
The City Commission is claiming to have unlimited powers to take away our freedoms because the Governor has declared a state of emergency. This constitutes an abuse of power. There is no emergency in Fort Lauderdale. People aren't dying in the streets; this isn't smallpox.
The good news is that as soon as the Governor lifts the state of Emergency, these local measures go away.
More Overreaching Decrees
Today, April 10th, the Mayor once again overstepped his boundries by requiring face coverings in all "essential services" venues; which implies that you have to wear something to go into a supermarket. Supermarkets weren't turning anyone away today, but in the future they may have to.
More overreach by a guy pretending to be a real Mayor.
So the threat to the general public is EVEN LESS than we thought. HOW MANY of the 107 Broward deaths are at nursing homes or similar facilities? Will the City Of Fort Lauderdale release that info?
People used to die from STDs. Now they're just a disease that requires treatment.
