Critic's Review
Hot tomatos has closed. I'm surprised they lasted this long
****************************************
They've renamed this place Hot Tomato's but its really the same "La Salsa Fresh Mexican" as it was previously.
The original review 6/1/2006:
"Ok, this fresh mexican thing is a bit silly. The entire point of mexican food is the gooey cheese and hot messy sauces. Tacos here are like dry fajitas, which isn't really Mexican food. I had some tacos and it was just a pain in the neck to keep everything on the shell, and then it simply had no taste. Being a Chorizo-lover, I tried the breakfast burrito; scrambled eggs and chorizo with cheese in a folded tortilla. Well the chorizo was lousy; big chunks of smoked sausage that tasted more like Kielbasa. "
I decided to give them another try; I figured with their fancy new sign and menu maybe they've improved. I wasn't too hungry so I just ordered the "Taco Basket", which according to their menu has grilled chicken, something called Salsa Mexicana, lettuce, guacamole and cheese.
As you can see there is lettuce, tomatoes, chicken and cheese. No salsa. No Guacamole. And the chicken doesn't taste fresh. It's the same, bad tasting taco from 4 years ago.
How do places like this survive?
