June 18th Bus Loop

On Friday June 18 there was a "Bus Loop" charity event. Bus Loops are held every 6 weeks or so and they benefit the following local Charities:

  • Jessica June Children's Cancer Fund
  • Young Professional's Covenant House
  • Cystic Fibrosis Foundation
  • Riverwalk Trust
  • Broward County Gator Club Charities

Participants in the Bus-Loop events receive a card at check-in that they can use to obtain a drink at each of the participating venues. Just give the bartender the card and they'll cross off the venue when you get your drink. If you drink a lot, or you don't and you just want a few sips without paying for the drink; its a pretty good deal.

The clear winner of the event in terms of publicity was Duffy's Sports Grill, where a packed house enjoyed their generous offerings. Duffy's was the only vendor to allow Bus Loop participants to have any drink they wanted. Between 7pm and 8:15pm they brought out a steady stream of quality appetizers including ribs, sliders, eggrolls, shrimp and quesadillas. It was clearly the place to be during appetizer hour. It was also the only place where you could watch Yankees/Mets or Steven Strasburg pitch.

I feel compelled to express my displeasure in the Bimini Boatyard's limitation of beverage to fruit punch. They also had a private party which cut the bar area in half. And we were supposed to go back there after the event to spend money? I think not.
