Critic's Review

The Dubliner Didn't Last Long..The Dubliner is closed after just 1 year open.

Review 3/25/13

The Dubliner rushed to open on St Patrick's day, probably a bit before they were ready. They have a makeshift website with Mizner Park's menu on it and they're not answering questions on their facebook page. There are a lot of pieces that don't quite yet fit together.

They started serving lunch today; they're serving people while installing phones and having meetings in the dining room. As for the decor; it's the Himmarshee Bar and Grill and Side Bar with a facelift. You can't do too much in a month, and frankly, it didn't need to be remodeled. There's a stage in the rear of the bar area and they'll have live music a few nights a week.

The dining room side is very similar to the way it was before.

The big yellow wall and fancy artwork has been replaced with a big chalk board outlining the Specials.

They have a lunch special were you can choose 1 item from each of 2 food groups allowing you to sample a couple of items from their menu. Sliders, salads, half sandwiches. But I was going for the Irish Breakfast.

Service isn't quite in gear yet, but they do have nice irish music playing. A guy with an irish accent brought out the food.

Dubliner Irish Breakfast

This is the most organized one of these I've ever had, usually there's a bunch of stuff thrown on the plate and the Heinz (beans) tend to get into everything. It's actually nice to have the beans in their own space. Another place that uses the tiny eggs (note to restaurant owners, pay an extra $.04 for the extra large eggs and you'll have happier customers). Rye bread instead of Irish Brown or Soda Bread; a nice Irish Banger and Black Pudding (ie blood sausage). Tasty stuff, and not bad for $8.50 I suppose, but it needed one more thing to make this more of a "full breakfast". I have to say it was interesting and a nice change of pace from what every other restaurant in town is serving.

I wasn't too excited when I heard about this, mainly because the Dubliner in Boca is pretty dull. But then again, it's Mizner Plaza. This place is owned by Rodney Mayo, who owns Dada, Tryst, Kapow, DeLux and a bunch of places in West Palm. One thing I like about Irish Bar menus is that there's a lot of medium priced stuff that's good for late night munching; a reuben sandwich or a $7. wedge salad. They say that they'll be serving food until 2AM; It will be good to be able to get some real food late night downtown. Note that the menu we have is from Mizner; prices at this location seem to be about $1 less across the board. Although they do get $6 for a pint of Guinness.

We'll have to see how this place plays out. Anything is better than the Side Bar. Even if it is the 4th Irish Pub on the block.
