Critic's Review
It looks like they tried to rename this place when nobody was looking (although there's no filing for a Fictitious Name). The For Rent signs tell you all you need to know.
Review 11/7/12
Texas Hold'em closed their downtown location a year ago, and now they've re-opened in a crusty neighborhood down the road from Andrews Publix. They don't have any info about this location on their website, so I headed over expecting their prices to be lower in this downtrodden neighborhood. But it seems that they charge the same here as they do at their main location, which doesn't make a lot of sense. This location is bigger than their previous downtown location, but not nearly as charming. Jeremy's music and decorations are missing; this is like an old, beat up storefront.
I didn't want to pay $16 for a half rack of spare ribs, so i opt'd for a lunch special. They have a bunch of options fpr $6; you can get 3 ribs and a side, or you can get a pulled pork sandwich, which is what I ordered with a side of baked beans.
As pulled pork goes, this was pretty lousy. It was wet; more like braised pork, and had no seasoning and only a slightly smoked flavor. Burying it with BBQ sauce made it edible, but barely.
I've never had the pulled pork at their other location, so I can't say if it was different than what you get there. But this didn't measure up to what I expect to get at Texas Hold'em BBQ. The pulled pork I had the other day at Dickey's was much better than this.
