Critic's Review
Some places are in the middle of nowhere. Nelson's is tucked behind nowhere; It's hard to find even if you know where it is. I've found myself driving by here a few times before, but it was always late, and Nelson's closes at 3pm. I was going to go to Cypress Nook, which is just around the corner, but they close at 2pm. At 1:48 it was too late for the Nook.
Nelson's have a 50's theme; there's a cardboard Elvis in the back. pennants on the ceiling. Makeshift booths that don't really fit into the storefront space.
Coffee comes in a little cup with creamers that say "no refrigeration required". It's not good coffee; kind of plasticky. The breakfast menu here is pure diner food; not one item out of the ordinary. No specific omelets. I opt for a standard breakfast. No home fries here; just hash browns.
50s music fills the air. The Cookies. Don and Juan. And of course some Elvis. Most of the people here are regulars.
The eggs some out in about 10 minutes. I'm offered hot sauce and ketchup, which makes no sense to me. But I have everything I need.
A lot of food for the price. Oh, the price. $7.08 including tax. Hard to believe you can get a meal for that price in 2015.
Conclusion
Nelson's is old school, right down to the prices. Not some place you go out of your way for, but you can't complain about the value.
