Critic's Review
When I first found out about this place, I figured they were moving from their other location. but their other location is still open. A bit too close if you ask me, particularly since this location has no web presence at all. So if you didn't know about the other location, you'd go online, see the W Broward address and order; not realizing that you were ordering from the other location.
This location is shiny and new; the exact opposite of the old, decripit original location. Since nobody knows the phone number for this location, the customers are largely construction working working at the center.
They have a pretty extensive lunch menu with nothing on it that I want; I didn't even realize that I ordered the exact thing I'd ordered my last time at Chen's. The Egg Foo Young lunch with fried rice and egg roll.
Since I didn't have their number, I stopped in, placed my order and then ran into Walmart to pick up a few items. The woman at the counter speaks very broken English so things had to be repeated back and forth several times before I was sure it was right.
It wasn't more than 15 minutes when I returned; I went straight home after picking up the food. But it was still cold when I opened the bag.
Lots of duck and soy but no mustard. I usually ask for extra mustard, but I don't like mustard on egg foo young. Do YOU put mustard on an omelet?
With the lunch deal, you never get real pork fried rice. This is leftover friend rice that they steam or something; It literally had 2 pieces of pork in it. I didn't have an char siu, but I couldn't eat this fried rice. Plus it was cold. So I'd have to break out my wok to heat is up and add some vegetables.
Might as well toss the pancakes into some hot oil to heat it up also. 2 pancakes with the lunch deal; this was good for 2 lunches even without the egg roll.
One thing bad about the lunch special is the rice and the sauce get all co-mingled so I couldn't really heat up the sauce. Easy enough to make some more.
Luckily the egg foo young had a lot of pork in it, so once It came together the dish as fine.
The egg roll was mushy on the inside. And had a big chunk of carrot in it. Very disappointing.
Conclusion
In South Florida, Chinese food out of the box is often unappetizing, and today was no different. Fake pork fried rice with the lunch special is annoying but not unusual. If you shop at Walmart it will be convenient for you to pick up here; and this location is even suitable for eat in if you prefer your food hot.
