Pros

Where else can you by Crispy Duck?

Cons

Confusing, uninteresting Menu
Difficult to Communicate in English

While I was in the neighborhood, I though I'd pick up some Chinese BBQ to use in some asian dishes. Preparing BBQ pork at home is a pain.

I almost didn't get out of the car; there were some pretty dangerous looking non-asian dudes lurking around this side of the shopping center, but I decided to take a chance.

The place is a small storefront where you can buy BBQ pork along with some other items. What I really wanted was a container of Char Siu pork. But that didn't seem to be an item on the menu.

The menu isn't very clear, so I enquired about the triple deluxe, except it wasn't clear what items were available as choices. Taking a look at the counter, it was just a big mess.

soggy cabbage and plain white rice, why did I want that crap? And the stuff in the steam table looked awful. I couldn't even tell what most of it was.

What I really wanted was a meat sampler, but asking questions was too painful.

So I just went with a 1/2 lb of crispy pork, just to give it a try.

When I got home I oped it up.

Not really what i wanted; the meat was pretty tasty but it was very fatty and gristly. I didn't really see much use for it (I'd already bought some pork shoulder for the dish I was making, so I decided to try to trim off the fat and gristle and make Char Sui out of it.

Just marinate it in the right mix of stuff and bake it in the oven and you get stuff that rivals the best chinese restaurant's offerings.

I'll be having some pork fried rice this week for certain.

Conclusion

This place seems like a good place to get a crispy duck if that's what you want, but nothing else really looks that good. A weak, poorly conceived menu and language barriers keep it from being what it could be. I didn't think the crispy pork was worth the $12.80 / lb that they charge for it.

Next time buy "honey pork." Comes by the pound. Exactly right for fried rice.
