Critic's Review
I checked out the Asian market in this center, and decided to do some takeout at this place. Just $7.50 for the lunch special; I figured they're so close to the market they they must have super fresh ingredients; no need to store anything when you live right next to the market.
While it looks very modern, it's pretty dreary during the day. Nobody in the place at 2:15pm.
I paid, gabbed my smiley bag and hit the road. It's a half hour drive in non rush hour traffic to downtown Fort Lauderdale.
Inside the bag was a styrofoam container, chopsticks, a fork and a spoon but no condiments. No mustard, soy or duck sauce. Lose a service star for that.
Opening it up, it seemed like a fair portion for $7.50. The choice of hot and sour was welcome.
I never order General Tso's Chicken because it's always so poorly done. I have my own recipe that's OUTSTANDING; don't like it sweet and I don't like the thick batter most places use. This was no different. Chicken so heavily battered that they were like something you might get at Popeyes. 3 pieces of undercooked broccoli. Fried rice with no egg or bean sprouts; just pork and some frozen peas and carrots thrown in. An amateur rendition. Not "fried" either; just scooped out of a rice warmer.
I tasted the chicken; a sweet cloying sauce that had virtually no heat. Good grief, this is supposed to be a spicy dish. There were 4 whole chilis but it's like none of the heat made it into the sauce.
I had to heat it up anyway as it was already cold from the trip home; I just added some bean sprouts to the fried rice and whooshed it in my wok for a couple of minutes.
At least I got the broccoli to an edible state. But this isn't wasn't anything I'd expect to get at a real Chinese restaurant.
Conclusion
Apparently they have a Dim Sum service at this restaurant, but I didn't have time (or the desire) to sit in an empty Chinese restaurant. It's something you do with a big group. Of course their website doesn't even have a menu, and I'm not going to spend a lot of time researching it. Just don't confuse this with Palm Court restaurant in NYC. This is something much, much different.
