Now closed, no place has failed in South Florida more often than the Armadillo cafe. This is like the 4th one. Back in the 90s, when there were a spattering of good restaurants in Broward, people would go out of there way for this "unique" southwestern fare. But now that Chili's has gone southwestern (and it's kind of become a joke of a pseudo cuisine), it's not as interesting anymore.I wanted to try it but they never did open for lunch, and I was never motivated to drag myself up to boca for dinner. They lasted less than a year. When you can't make it to the end of March, it's really bad.

Kevin McCarthy is trying again; he's opening yet-another restaurant named Armadillo Cafe. They'll be taking over the old Red Lantern space.
Armadillo Cafe was a critically acclaimed restaurant in Davie back when Anthony's Runway and Bimini Boatyard were the hot spots in Fort Lauderdale. He opened and closed Armadillo Beach in Dania Beach. Most recently he tried to save the M-Bar when the kitchen staff left after missing payroll.
There's a lot more competition now, and not that many people who remember the original place; particularly in Boca.
