National Lampoon Underground is a restaurant and comedy club in the nook neighborhood near the corner of Sunrise and A1A. From the outside the place looks very big, but its really not. There's a small bar area downstairs and a room upstairs, as well as a balcony with some outside tables.
The bar and restaurant is open 5 days per week. They have open mic on Wednesday nights and comedy shows on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. They have 1 show at 8pm on Thursday and 2 shows on Friday and Saturday. On Sundays they have an all you can eat Buffet for $15. per person upstairs. The room upstairs is a general purpose room with a bar and a small "stage" where they have the shows. There's also a bar on the roof.
The food here is pretty good. Wings, nachos. Both decent if not entirely memorable. You can even get a knish. On their web site they talk about kids and ice cream sodas. But I just can't see bringing kids to this place in this part of town.
Keep in mind that this is in a part of town dominated by tattoo parlors and the kind of people who hang out near tattoo parlors. I can't get past the feeling that this place just feels creepy. The black paint everywhere. The bartenders are creepy. I asked one a question and she had no comprehension of what I was asking. I really couldn't wait to get out of the place.
